Four Wolverines Set to Compete at NCAA Zones

University of Michigan women's divers Erin Bridgewater, Marina Nazario, Carey Chen and Sarah Kamstra will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, to be held at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center from Thursday (March 14) to Saturday (March 16).

The meet determines which divers from the region will compete at the NCAA Championships, which will be held March 21-23 in Minneapolis, Minn.

Bridewater, Chen and Nazario are making their second appearances at Zones for the U-M women. Kamstra is making her first appearance.

The number of qualifying spots per zone is determined based on the results from the previous year's national championship. This year, Zone C has been allotted nine spots for both men and women. Winners of the three boards automatically qualify but only count as one spot. Priority placings from Zones to the NCAA Championships works as follows:


On Thursday (March 14), the women will compete on three-meter, and on Friday (March 15) they will dive one-meter, with both days beginning at 10 a.m. Both men and women will compete on platform at 11 a.m. on Saturday (March 16). Top top 18 divers from prelims qualify for evening finals

Last Year at the Event
For the women in 2012, Amanda Lohman qualified for the NCAA Championships with her third-place finish from the three-meter. She also placed fifth from the one-meter and 13th from the platform. Carey Chen took 19th in one-meter diving, 34th from three meters and seventh from the platform. Erin Bridgewater placed 15th from the platform, 29th from three meters and 41st in the one-meter. Marina Nazario took 20th from the platform, 48th in the three-meter and 52nd in the one-meter.

Four women's swimmers were invited to represent U-M in individual events at the NCAA Championships March 21-23 in Indianapolis, Ind. Senior Adrienne Bicek was invited to compete in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley. Junior Courtney Beidler received invites to swim three events: the 200-yard individual medley, the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly; junior Angela Chokran is scheduled for the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststrokes, and freshman Marni Oldershaw for the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medleys. The Michigan 200-yard medley relay team of Ali DeLoof, Chokran, Ashley Cohagen and Deirdre Jones achieved an NCAA 'A' cut time at the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 20.
