The No. 20-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team will send five swimmers, one diver and five relays to the NCAA Championships this Thursday through Saturday (March 20-22) at the University Aquatics Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Preliminaries begin each morning at 11 a.m. CDT, and finals commence at 7 p.m. This is the most individuals and relays U-M has qualified since 2010-11, when the Maize and Blue sent six swimmers and four relays.

Michigan will be represented by senior swimmers Courtney Beidler (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) and Angela Chokran (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North), junior diver Carey Chen (Vancouver, British Columbia/University Hill Secondary) and sophomore swimmers Ali DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South), Zoe Mattingly (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) and Marni Oldershaw (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge). U-M also qualified for all five relays: the 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays and the 200- and 400-yard medley relays.

Scoring
The top eight times (places 1-8) in each preliminary race, including relays, will advance to the evening's finals and earn NCAA All-America (the only exception is the 1,650-yard freestyle, which is a timed final). The next eight times (places 9-16) will swim in the 'B' final and earn NCAA All-America honorable mention. The top 16 finishers will score points for their team.

Courtney Beidler • Senior
200-yard butterfly / 200-yard IM / 400-yard IM
Beidler is making her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships and is qualified in three events. She is coming off a very successful Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22) where she won the 400-yard IM, becoming Michigan's first Big Ten champ in two seasons. She also placed third in the 200-yard IM and ninth in the 200-yard butterfly. Beidler earned All-Big Ten first team honors and a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award at the meet. She is the U-M record holder in the 400-yard IM (4:07.42) and holds the third-fastest career times in both the 200-yard IM (1:57.21) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.74). Just this season, Beidler has dropped more than three seconds from her time in the 400-yard IM. She is one of Michigan's captains this season.

• U-M has had one NCAA champion in the 400-yard IM, Mindy Gehrs in 1993, and one AIAW national champion, Sue Cahill in 1982. In addition, 12 Wolverines have earned All-America honors, with Emily Brunemann the most recent in 2008.

• Michigan has had 13 NCAA All-America honors in the 200-yard IM, with Margaret Kelly honored most recently in 2010.

• Michigan is yet to have a national champion in the 200-yard butterfly. Three Wolverines have earned All-America honors, with Talor Bendel's coming most recently in 1995.

Carey Chen • Junior
1-meter diving / 3-meter diving / platform diving
Chen is making her first appearances at the NCAA Championships and will dive on all three boards. She earned a spot based on her performance at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships (March 14-16) with her third-place finish on platform. At the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22), Chen was a finalist from all three boards, finishing sixth on platform and eighth on both one-meter and three-meter. She is the first U-M diver since Amanda Lohman to qualify for the NCAA Championships (2011-12). Chen is a two-time Big Ten Diver of the Week (Oct. 1, Feb. 7). She holds the second-highest score on platform in U-M history (288.50), the fifth-best on one-meter (311.10) and seventh-best on three-meter (319.50).

• Mary Fischbach is the last U-M diver to win an NCAA crown (1988). In fact, she won all three boards, becoming the only U-M diver to ever accomplish that feat.

• Michigan has had seven All-Americans in one-meter diving, most recently Lisa Cribari in 1992. There have been seven three-meter diving All-Americans, with Carrie Zarse (1999) the most recent recipient. Three Wolverines have earned All-America status on platform, with Cinnamon Woods the most recent in 1993. Amanda Lohman was a two-time All-America honorable mention (2012 on one-meter and three-meter).

Angela Chokran • Senior
100-yard breaststroke / 200-yard breaststroke / 200-yard IM
Chokran is making her third appearance at the NCAA Championships and second in a row. She is a three-time All-America honorable mention (2013: 200-yard medley relay and 100-yard breaststroke; 2011: 400-yard medley relay). Chokran is coming off the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22) where she achieved her qualifying marks. At the conference meet, she earned a bronze medal by finishing third in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke and 15th in the 200-yard IM. The senior holds the U-M record in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.80) and is the only Michigan woman to break the one-minute mark. She holds the second-fastest career time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.41), just .04 seconds off Rachel Gustin's U-M record (2:10.37 set in 1995). Chokran is one of Michigan's four captains this season.

• Michigan has had one NCAA national champion in the 100-yard breaststroke, Lara Hooiveld in 1993. In addition, eight Wolverines have earned All-America honors, with Alegra Breaux the most recent in 1995.

• U-M has had two NCAA national champions in the 200-yard breaststroke, Ann Colloton in 1989 and Lara Hooiveld in 1993. Eleven U-M swimmers have earned All-America status in the event.

Ali DeLoof • Sophomore
50-yard freestyle / 100-yard freestyle / 100-yard backstroke
DeLoof is making her second appearance at the NCAA Championships after swimming on two relays at the 2013 meet as a freshman. She earned an All-America honorable mention citation for U-M's 13th-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 2013. DeLoof qualified for the NCAA meet at the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22), where she finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, 15th in the 50-yard freestyle and 18th in the 100-yard freestyle. She was a four-time Big Ten Swimmer of the Week this season (Oct. 1, Oct. 15, Jan. 7, Feb. 7), the only swimmer to receive four weekly conference citations. DeLoof owns the second-fastest U-M career time in the 100-yard backstroke (52.84) and the eighth-fastest in the 50-yard freestyle (22.70).

• The Maize and Blue has one NCAA champion in the 100-yard backstroke, Alecia Humphrey in 1995. Five U-M swimmers have earned All-America status in the event, with Jennifer Crisman doing so most recently in 1999.

• U-M has four All-America citations in the 50-yard freestyle, with Jennie Eberwein accounting for the three most-recent honors, with the latest coming in 1998.

• Five Wolverines have earned All-America honors in the 100-yard freestyle, including a pair for Shannon Shakespeare, U-M's record holder (48.55), in 1997-98. Lindsey Smith is the most recent All-American, earning her citation in 2007.

Zoe Mattingly • Sophomore
100-yard freestyle / 100-yard backstroke / 100-yard butterfly
Mattingly is making her second appearance at the NCAA Championships after swimming on U-M's 13th-place 200-yard medley relay in 2013. She earned an All-America honorable mention for her part on the relay. Mattingly is swimming in three events at the meet after competing in the same trio at the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22). At that meet, she took home a bronze medal with her third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. She also finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly. Mattingly is the Michigan record holder in the 100-yard backstroke (52.81), which she set at the Big Ten meet. She also ranks sixth on U-M's career list in the 100-yard freestyle (49.29) and seventh in the 100-yard butterfly (53.33).

• A trio of U-M athletes has earned All-America status in the 100-yard butterfly, with Margaret Kelly doing so most recently in 2010.

Marni Oldershaw • Sophomore
200-yard butterfly / 200-yard IM / 400-yard IM
Oldershaw is competing at the NCAA Championships for the second time. She raced in three events as a freshman, finishing 20th in the 400-yard IM, 22nd in the 200-yard IM and 46th in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Oldershaw is coming off the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22), where she earned a place on the All-Big Ten second team. The sophomore placed second in both the 400-yard IM and the 200-yard IM. She also finished 14th in the 200-yard butterfly. Oldershaw owns the second-fastest career time in the 200-yard IM (1:57.11) on Michigan's school list and the third-fastest in the 400-yard IM (4:08.50).

The makeup of individual relays will be announced on the day of each race.

200-yard Freestyle Relay
U-M scored an NCAA provisional time in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the Big Ten Championships with a time of 1:30.32. The relay of Julia Fiks Salem, DeLoof, Madeline Frost and Mattingly swam that relay.

• Nine Michigan relays have earned All-America status, with most recent coming in 2006 (Kaitlyn Brady, Hannah Smith, Abby Seskevics and Lindsey Smith).

400-yard Freestyle Relay
The Wolverines qualified the 400-yard freestyle relay for the NCAA Championships with their time of 3:17.95 at the Big Ten meet, an NCAA provisional time. Claudia Goswell, Mattingly, DeLoof and Beidler comprised that relay.

• Michigan has had seven All-America relays in this event, with the most recent coming in 2007 (Kaitlyn Brady, Margaret Kelly, Hannah Smith and Lindsey Smith).

800-yard Freestyle Relay
The Maize and Blue achieved an NCAA qualifying time at the Big Ten meet with a time of 7:11.34. Claudia Goswell, Beidler, Kelsey Cummings and Oldershaw swam that relay.

• Seven Michigan relays have earned All-America citations in this event, with the most recent coming in 2004 (Lindsey Smith, Susan Gilliam, Emily-Clare Fenn, Amy McCullough).

200-yard Medley Relay
The relay of Ali DeLoof, Angela Chokran, Zoe Mattingly and Julia Fiks Salem set a school record of 1:37.51 in the 200-yard medley relay and achieved an NCAA 'A" cut at the Big Ten Championships.

• Last season, the relay of DeLoof, Chokran, Ashley Cohagen and Mattingly finished 13th and received All-America honorable mention status (along with Deirdre Jones, who swam the morning preliminary).

• U-M has had one All-America team in the 200-yard medley relay: Kaitlyn Brady, Margaret Kelly, Lindsey Smith and Valeria Silva in 2007.

400-yard Medley Relay
Michigan earned a NCAA 'B' cut in the 400-yard medley relay at the U.S. Winter National Championships with a time of 3:35.28. DeLoof, Chokran, Beidler and Mattingly swam on that relay.

• Michigan has had one NCAA national champion 400-yard medley relay team: Talor Bendel, Megan Gillam, Rachel Gustin and Alecia Humphrey in 1995. In addition, nine U-M teams have earned All-America honors in this event.

Michigan All-Time at NCAAs
The Wolverines have scored points at the NCAA Championships every season since 1983. U-M has finished outside of the top 25 only four times in the past 27 seasons (1986, 2002, 2012, 2013). Michigan has had 11 swimming and diving NCAA national champions.

The Wolverines have secured a top-10 finish 13 times in their history, including a runner-up team finish in 1995.

Last Season at NCAAs
Four swimmers and two relays competed at the 2013 NCAA Championships held at the IU Natatorium and IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis, Ind. Michigan finished 36th overall, scoring nine points. The 200-yard medley relay and Angela Chokran all earned NCAA All-America honorable mention citations.

Last Time Out
U-M placed fifth at the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 19-22) by scoring 361 points. Courtney Beidler won the Big Ten title in the 400-yard IM, Marni Oldershaw earned two silver medals by placing second in both the 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM, Angela Chokran took the bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Zoe Mattingly earned the bronze in the 100-yard backstroke. Diver Carey Chen was an 'A' finalist on all three boards, with a sixth-place finish on platform. The Wolverines set 41 new personal bests and broke three school records: Beidler in the 400-yard IM (4:07.51), Mattingly in the 100-yard backstroke (52.81) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.51).
