ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan diving coach KZ Li announced Thursday (April 26) the signings of prep divers Elena Ghormley (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and Sarah Kamstra (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West) to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season.
"We are very excited to add Elena and Sarah to our team," Li said. "Both have been very successful and talented divers at the prep and club level and will be great additions to our team."
Ghormley is an Ann Arbor native and has been diving with Legacy Diving Club, which is coached by Buck Smith. She has competed at numerous USA Diving events over the last four years, with her highest finishes coming at the 2011 Summer Junior Region 3 Championships, where she finished 11th on three-meter (323.45) and 12th on one-meter (288.25). Ghormley won the Division I Regional diving title last November and went on to finish ninth on one-meter at the MHSAA D-I state championship meet.
Kamstra hails from Zeeland, Mich., and has been diving with Grand Rapids Diving Club, which is coached by Don Glass. Last fall, Kamstra was named the Zone 5 Girls Diver of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association, and she went on to finish third on one-meter at the MHSAA D-I state championship meet. She also finished second at regionals and won a conference championship. For her high school career, Kamstra was a three-time all-conference selection and qualified for the state championships all four years.
Ghormley and Kamstra are the second and third divers in the Wolverines' 2012-13 recruiting class, joining prior signee Emmy Orrico (Commerce Township, Mich./Mercy). Michigan also signed six swimmers in the fall: Ali DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South), Marie Georger (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep), Zoe Mattingly (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville), Sharalynn Missiuna (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Trafalgar), Marni Oldershaw (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge) and Jessica Wolf (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego).
