PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Angela Chokran (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) and sophomore Carey Chen (Vancouver, British Columbia/University Hill Secondary) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team were named Big Ten Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced on Tuesday (Oct. 2).
In the season opener against Wisconsin Saturday (Sept. 29), Chokran won a pair of races, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.78) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.64). She also swam the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.61) and on one of Michigan's 200-yard medley relay teams (1:43.74). This is the first Big Ten weekly honor of her career.
Chen led the U-M divers against Wisconsin, finishing first on one-meter with a career-high score of 293.55 and taking second on three-meter (292.80).
Michigan returns to the pool this weekend for a pair of meets, hosting Minnesota on Friday (Oct. 5) at 5 p.m. and the first-ever Michigan Water Carnival on Saturday (Oct. 6) at noon. Both meets will take place at Canham Natatorium.
