ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team was named USA Swimming Open Water Female Swimmer of the Year last month at the United States Aquatic Convention in Chicago, Ill.
Brunemann, a 2008 NCAA champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle, swam for Team USA at the FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy, earlier this summer, swimming the 5k and 10k open water races. She finished ninth and 24th, respectively.
After redshirting the 2008-09 season, Brunemann picked up right where she left off this weekend at Notre Dame, winning three races and helping the Wolverines to wins in two relay races at the Dennis Stark Relays (Oct. 9).
