ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team swept all four of its doubles matches versus No. 50 South Florida and won five of six singles matches against No. 20 Georgia Tech on the second day of action at the Michigan Invitational on Sunday (Jan. 19) at the Varsity Tennis Center.

The Wolverines started the day strong, taking all four doubles matches from South Florida. Michigan's first two pairs off court (No. 4 and No. 2) both won 6-0 decisions. Senior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) and junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) took a 6-4 win at No. 1 before the freshmen duo of Laura Ucros (Bogota, Colombia/Fundación Nuevo Marymount) and Sara Remynse (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) rallied for a 7-5 win at No. 3.

Freshman Annie Wierda (Holland, Mich./Evert Tennis Academy) was the first Wolverine off court in singles action against Georgia Tech, taking a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6. Junior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) dug out of a one-set hole, winning the second 6-0 to force the match to a 10-point tiebreaker. Lee jumped out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 10-7 breaker win for the match over Kendal Woodard at No. 1.

Remynse kept Michigan perfect on the day when she completed her match, hanging on for a 6-2, 7-5 win over Muriel Wacker at the No. 5 position. Zhu completed her comeback moments later, erasing her one set deficit in a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) victory at No. 3.

Georgia Tech won its only match of the day at No. 4 following Zhu's win, with Bolender rebounding from a first-set loss for a 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 2 to complete U-M's 5-1 singles day.

Michigan concludes tournament action tomorrow (Monday, Jan. 20) at the Varsity Tennis Center. Georgia Tech and South Florida will play singles at 10 a.m., with all four teams playing doubles at 1 p.m. The Wolverines will conclude the day with singles matches versus Ole Miss at 2 p.m.

• Scoring in doubles today was a regular set to six, not an eight-game pro set like in previous years. This method will be used through the ITA Indoor Championships.

• A 10-point super tiebreaker was used instead of a full third set in singles. This scoring method will also be used through the ITA Indoor Championships.

• This is Michigan's final tournament action before beginning dual-match play next weekend.
