ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team advanced to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the fifth consecutive year with a 4-0 victory over Yale on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 26) at the Varsity Tennis Center. The Wolverines won the doubles point and the first three singles matches off the court to secure their second win of the weekend.

"It's always tough to advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships," head coach Ronni Bernstein said. "We played Yale two years ago here, and we knew we were going to have a battle today. We're excited to go back to the indoor championships for the fifth straight year. It gives us an opportunity to play against the best teams in the country."

U-M claimed a tightly contested doubles point, splitting at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions before earning the initial point of the match with a win a No. 2. After Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Laura Ucros (Bogota, Colombia) won the first doubles match of the day at the No. 3 spot (6-3), the Bulldogs picked up a victory at the top of the doubles lineup, setting up the No. 2 match as the decider.

In the deciding doubles match, junior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) and sophomore Amy Zhu (Newark, Del./Laurel Springs) grabbed a late break on their way to defeating the Yale tandem of Annie Sullivan and Hanna Yu, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point for the Maize and Blue.

Both Lee and Dodge won their singles matches in straight sets to put the Wolverines ahead, 3-0. Lee then downed Sherry Li, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 2 position, and Dodge followed shortly thereafter with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Amber Li at the No. 6 spot.

Junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) secured the win for Michigan, posting a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory over Hamilton at the top of the lineup.

The Wolverines will compete in the 16-team ITA National Indoor Championship, Feb. 7-10, at the Boar's head Tennis Club in Charlottesville, Va. Michigan is in road action next Sunday (Feb. 2) when the squad heads to Knoxville, Tenn., to face Tennessee at 11 a.m.
