NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- For the second consecutive dual appearance, the No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team rallied from an early deficit after dropping the doubles points, claiming four singles victories to edge No. 18 Vanderbilt, 4-3, on Friday afternoon (Feb. 3) at the Currey Tennis Center. The Wolverines improved to 4-0 on the season, including three straight decisions over ranked opposition.

Michigan took four of the first five matches off court, clinching the dual from the No. 1 position, where freshman Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels HS) battled to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 decision over No. 23-ranked Jackie Wu. Bektas, ranked 36th, extended her win streak to seven consecutive matches; she has claimed four wins over ranked opponents over the stretch.

The Wolverines were also victorious at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions. Like Bektas, junior Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan HS) and freshman Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) improved to 4-0 in dual play with straight-set wins at the latter two spots. Nguyen cruised past No. 110-ranked Marie Casares, 6-1, 6-1, while Lee defeated Alex Leatu, 6-3, 6-4.

Sophomore Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan Prep) rounded out Michigan's singles winners, claiming a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 69-ranked Lauren Mira at No. 2. Bolender is 3-1 in dual appearances.

Nguyen and senior Michelle Sulahian (Valley Glen, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) claimed the Wolverines' lone doubles win from the No. 2 spot, earning an 8-6 decision over Marie Casares and Ashleigh Antal. The Commodores won the first two doubles matches off court, including an 8-6 decision at the No. 1 spot.

The Wolverines will wrap up their road trip on Sunday (Feb. 5), heading to Knoxville, Tenn., to face Tennessee at 10 a.m. at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
