CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after winning the first two singles matches off court, but dropped the next three in a 4-2 loss to Clemson on Saturday (Feb. 8) in consolation action of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at Boar's Head Sports Club.

Michigan dropped the doubles point, losing at No. 1 and No. 3 to start the team match. Michigan's pair of sophomore Amy Zhu (Newark, Del./Laurel Springs) and junior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) breezed to a 6-2 win at No. 2 after U-M fell at No. 3 to even up the doubles competition.

Needing just one more win for the point, U-M lost a 7-6 (4) decision at No. 1 to enter singles down, 1-0.

Junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) put Michigan on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 for her seventh straight victory. Sophomore Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) followed with a win in her first dual-match appearance, rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3) victory at No. 2 to put Michigan ahead, 2-1. Yurovsky was up 2-1 in the third-set tiebreraker before ripping off eight of the next 10 points for the win.

Clemson answered with wins at No. 5 and No. 3, winning 10-point tiebreakers in both to take a 3-2 lead.

With senior captain Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) and freshman Sara Remynse (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) left on court, each Wolverine faced a match point at the same time. Remynse fell at No. 6 to provide the Tigers' final point, as Bolender's match was abandoned at No. 4.

Michigan completes consolation action tomorrow morning (Sunday, Feb. 9, 9 a.m.) against Miami (Fla.) at the National Team Indoor Championships.
