Doubles Point, Top of Singles Lineup Pushes Michigan Past Miami

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team completed action at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship with a 4-1 win over No. 9-ranked Miami (Fla.) on Sunday morning (Feb. 9) at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

Michigan won the doubles point for the first time at the tournament, using wins at No. 1 and No. 3 for the match's first point. Michigan's No. 1 pair of junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) and senior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) won easily, 6-2, as the first match off court.

U-M dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 2 to even the doubles competition. Needing one more win for the doubles point, the Maize and Blue duo of junior Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and sophomore Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) defeated No. 55 Brittany Dubins and Stephanie Wagner, 6-2, to win the doubles point.

Miami tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 6 before the top of Michigan's lineup flexed its muscle. Junior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) eased to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lina Lileikite at No. 3 to push Michigan back on top, 2-1.

Bektas dropped her first set to No. 64 Kelsey Laurente, 6-4, before rebounding for a 6-1 triumph in the second set. The Wolverine junior outlasted Laurente in the 10-point tiebreaker, 12-10, to wrap up Michigan's third point of the day.

Yurovsky provided the Wolverines' final point of the day with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (6) victory at No. 2 over No. 32 Stephanie Wagner. The other two matches in progress at No. 4 and No. 5 were abandoned.

Michigan returns home to host Notre Dame next Saturday (Feb. 15) at 1 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
