ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis head coach Ronni Bernstein won her 300th career match as the Wolverines defeated Western Michigan, 7-0, on Saturday night (Feb. 22) at the Varsity Tennis Center.

Michigan secured the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 2. The No. 2 pair of junior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) and sophomore Amy Zhu (Newark, Del./Laurel Springs) was the first off court, taking an 8-5 win. On serve in the early going, the Wolverines won four of the match's final five games for the victory.

At No. 3, freshman Laura Ucros (Bogota, Colombia/Fundación Nuevo Marymount) and sophomore Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) jumped out to a 4-1 lead en route to an 8-2 triumph for the match's first point.

In singles, Michigan won all six first sets to take control of the match. Junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) coasted to her 10th straight singles win, dispatching of Nini Sujashvili in just 40 minutes, 6-1, 6-1.

U-M's next point came courtesy of freshman Annie Wierda (Holland, Mich./Westminster Christian School), who won her first set, 6-3. On serve at 1-0 in the second, her opponent retired due to a foot injury.

Senior captain Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) provided the clinching point at No. 2, knocking off Meika Ashby, 6-3, 6-1. Michigan continued to roll after the team match was clinched, with Zhu, junior Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Lee all winning in straight sets.

Michigan does not return to action until March 5 when the Wolverines take on UNLV as part of their spring break trip.
