EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team opened the Big Ten Conference portion of its schedule with a 6-1 win at Michigan State on Sunday afternoon (March 16) inside the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

The Wolverines won the first two doubles matches off court for the early 1-0 lead against the Spartans. The No. 1 pair of senior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) and junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) grabbed an 8-1 win as the first Michigan winner of the day.

At No. 3, freshman Laura Ucros (Bogota, Colombia/Fundación Nuevo Marymount) and sophomore Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) battled back from a 4-1 deficit for the 8-5 win to seal U-M's first point of the match.

Bolender quickly pushed U-M's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emily Meyers at No. 4. Junior Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) accounted for the Wolverines' third point of the day, dispatching of Athena Trouillot in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) at No. 6.

Junior Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall) provided the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 4.

Yurovsky rebounded from a first-set loss to take a three-set decision at No. 2 to keep MSU off the scoreboard and push the score to 5-0.

MSU put its only point of the day on the board with a win at No. 5. Bektas wrapped up U-M's day with a straight-set win at No. 1, recovering from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to win in a breaker (7-2).

Michigan returns to the Varsity Tennis Center on Friday (March 21), hosting Ohio State at 3:30 p.m.
