CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team fell to No. 4 Ohio State, 4-0, in the championship match of the Big Ten Tournament on Sunday afternoon (April 30) at the Atkins Tennis Center.

Ohio State grabbed the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles points behind victories at No. 2 and No. 3.

Michigan and Ohio State kept exchanging breaks at No. 1, essentially keeping the match on serve. U-M's No. 2 pair of sophomore Brienne Minor and freshman Chiara Lommer had a break point on a deuce point at 4-3 to get back on serve, but Ohio State won the point for a 5-3 lead. OSU won the next game to take the first match off court, 6-3.

The No. 3 duo of from freshman Valeria Patiuk and junior Mira Ruder-Hook was down 3-0 before winning two straight games to climb back in at 3-2. It was all Ohio State from there as the Buckeyes won the final three games to wrap up the doubles point with a 6-3 win.

OSU won all six first sets in singles action as sophomore Kate Fahey went game for game with No. 1-ranked Francesca Di Lorenzo before dropping the last game in a 7-5 loss.

Ohio State extended its lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.

The Buckeyes picked up their third point of the afternoon behind a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.

Minor won her second set, 6-1, to force a third set at No. 2. Ruder-Hook also came back from a 6-3 first-set loss to win 6-4 in the second to stay on court.

Ohio State got its fourth point behind a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3. Lommer fought off one match point but dropped the deuce point when her forehand was called wide.

U-M will await its selection to the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday (May 2) at 5:30 p.m.
