ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) was named the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 4) after helping the University of Michigan women's tennis team to a 6-1 win at Tennessee on Sunday (Feb. 2). It marks her seventh weekly award from the conference.
Bektas helped No. 11 Michigan to its first win ever in Knoxville in six tries, as the Wolverines coasted to a 6-1 win over the Lady Vols. Bektas, ranked No. 21, defeated No. 53 Eve Repic in straight sets at No. 1 (6-0, 6-4) after teaming up with Brooke Bolender for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Bektas is 3-0 in dual-match action on the season and features a 17-4 overall singles record. She has won five straight singles matches.
The Wolverines are back in action this weekend (Feb. 7-10), participating in their fifth straight ITA National Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va. The draw has yet to be announced.
