ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team was selected the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second straight week on Tuesday (Feb. 11). It is the eighth time in her career that she has won the weekly honor.
Bektas, ranked No. 21 by the ITA, went 3-0 at the top spot for Michigan in singles action over the weekend (Feb. 7-9) at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. She knocked off No. 3 Beatrice Capra of Duke (6-2, 7-6) for her second win this season over a top-five opponent (No. 5 Annett Schutting, California).
The Michigan junior rounded out her weekend with wins over No. 74 Yana Koreleva of Clemson (6-4, 6-4) and No. 64 Kelsey Laruente of Miami (4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10)). Bektas is 6-0 in dual-match play and is riding an eight-match winning streak.
Michigan returns home this Saturday (Feb. 15) to host Notre Dame at 1 p.m.
