ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) of the University of Michigan women's tennis team was selected as the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Feb. 18). It is the third straight week that a Wolverine has won the weekly award and the third career conference honor for Yurovsky.
Yurovsky, ranked No. 18 by the ITA, defeated No. 99 Quinn Gleason of Notre Dame, 6-2, 6-1, to help the Maize and Blue to a 6-1 win over the No. 22 Fighting Irish Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15). Her singles win clinched the team's victory as Michigan moved to 5-2 on the season and helped U-M to its second straight win over a ranked opponent.
Yurovsky also joined with freshman Laura Ucros (Bogota, Columbia) in winning, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles. Michigan swept the three doubles matches to take that point.
Yurovsky is U-M's third straight Athlete of the Week honoree. Junior Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) earned the conference honor on Feb. 4 and 11. Yurovsky also earned the honor on Feb. 6 and March 6, 2013.
Michigan returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 22), hosting Western Michigan at the Varsity Tennis Center at 6 p.m.
