ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head women's tennis coach Ronni Bernstein announced today (Thursday, March 11) the addition of Samantha Critser (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View) to the Wolverines for the 2010-11 season.
Critser joins Brooke Bolender as incoming freshmen for the 2010-11 season. The duo was recently tabbed as the No. 6 recruiting class by tennisrecruiting.net.
"We are so excited that Sam will be joining our program next fall," Bernstein said. "Her work ethic and competitive spirit make her a perfect fit for us. We stress with our team how important it is to work hard and compete every day, and Sam has shown us that she will bring those qualities with her. I see her continuing to improve and being a major contributor to the success of our program."
Critser, a five-star recruit, was ranked No. 1 in Northern California for all age groups (12, 14, 16 and 18) and as high as No. 12 nationally in Girls 16-and-under. She is currently No. 27 on the tennis recruiting list for high school seniors. Recently, Critser advanced to the round of 16 at the USTA Winter Championships, held Dec. 27-Jan. 1, in Scottsdale, Ariz. In 2009, she won the Calabasas Girls 18 tournament in December and the Maze Cup in July.
The No. 6-ranked Wolverines are back in action on March 20, traveling to East Lansing, Mich., to take on in-state rival Michigan State in the first Big Ten action of the season.
