ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis head coach Ronni Bernstein announced the signing of Laura Ucros (Bogota, Colombia) to a National Letter of Intent on Tuesday (April 23). Ucros will join the team for the 2013-14 academic year.
Ucros has represented Colombia in the FedCup since she was 15 years old, playing in her first FedCup match this past February. She was a singles finalist in both the ITF Grade 1 Copa Barranquilla this past January and the South American B1 in La Paz, Bolivia in March 2012. Following her win in January, she achieved her highest combined ranking from the ITF at No. 32.
She has also played for Colombia as the top racquet in six South American team competitions from 2006-11. Ucros won the doubles title of the Eddie Herr in 2009. She ended this year as the top-ranked singles and doubles player in Colombia.
Ucros is the second signee for Bernstein for next season, joining Sara Remynse (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake), who signed in November. Michigan will lose senior Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) to graduation following this season.
