ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team will host Tulsa, Yale and Utah in the annual ITA Kick-Off after the draft was held on Thursday (June 5). It is the fifth straight season that Michigan has been tabbed as a host.
The ITA Kick-Off event will be held at the Varsity Tennis Center on Jan. 24 and 25, 2015. Each team is guaranteed two matches, with the winner of the weekend advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Michigan is the No. 1 seed, Tulsa is No. 2, Utah is No. 3 and Yale is No. 4, as the first matches of the weekend feature the No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3. The winners play each other the next day, with the losers also squaring off. Since the ITA switched to this format for the 2009-10 season, U-M has advanced to the national tournament in each year.
Tulsa and Yale are making their second straight appearances in Ann Arbor for the ITA Kick-Off, as both teams were at the VTC for the 2014 event. Yale defeated Tulsa on the first day of action before Michigan shut out Yale on the second day to send the Wolverines to the 2014 ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Tulsa went 17-6 in 2014, falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Utah is coming off a 15-9 season and finished the year with a No. 44 ranking by the ITA. Yale, who is coached by former U-M letterwinner Danielle Lund McNamara, went 14-8 last season and ended with a No. 49 ranking.
Michigan is coming off a 22-5 season, winning its fifth straight Big Ten championship with an 11-0 record in conference play.
