Sept. 11, 2012
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head women's tennis coach Ronni Bernstein announced on Tuesday (Sept. 11) that junior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) will serve as captain for the upcoming 2012-13 season. Bolender was voted to serve as captain by her teammates.
"I can't think of anyone better than Brooke to captain our team this year," Bernstein said. "Brooke brings great leadership qualities to the team, and I think it speaks volumes about her that she was selected by her teammates. She has been a key to our success the past few years, and I am excited to see her lead this team."
Bolender has earned All-Big Ten honors in both seasons as a Wolverine, garnering Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2011. She paired with former Wolverine Denise Muresan (2008-11) on the doubles court as a freshman to earn All-America honors. She holds the U-M record for victories in a season after going 35-9 during her freshman campaign. Bolender enters her junior season with a 60-21 singles record and 63-20 doubles mark during her tenure in the Maize and Blue.
The Wolverines kick off the tournament portion of their season by hosting the Wolverine Invitational Sept. 21-23 at the Varsity Tennis Center.
