ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's tennis head coach Ronni Bernstein announced today (Thursday, Nov. 11) the signing of Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels), Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall Episcopal) to National Letters of Intent to join the Wolverines for the 2011-12 academic year. All three players are designated Blue Chip recruits by tennisrecruiting.net.
"I am very excited about the addition of Emina, Kristy and Sarah to next year's roster," Bernstein said. "They each have been very successful on the national stage, and I am confident they will fit in well with our team and help us reach our goals. They are all capable of making an immediate impact on our team, which is what we need with the departure of this year's senior class. The future is bright for Michigan women's tennis."
Bektas is the No. 6-rated national recruit and the top-ranked player from the state of Indiana. She has compiled a 54-11 overall record in 2010, winning the Midwest Closed Singles and Doubles Championships. The 2009 and 2010 Doubles Gold Ball winner at Spring Nationals, Bektas rose to a No. 3 national ranking during the summer of 2010.
Dodge, the No. 32 high school senior, earned a fourth-place singles finish and runner-up in doubles at the July National Open, along with making quarterfinal appearances in the Spring Super Nationals and Winter Super Nationals.
Lee comes in at No. 20 on the senior list to round out the 2011 recruits. She won the 2010 Copper Bowl and has a 31-16 record in 2010. Lee competed in Thailand over the summer and helped lead Campbell Hall to a CIF victory. She reached a top-five national ranking and No. 1 ranking in Southern California during her prep career.
Michigan loses the senior class of Denise Muresan (Lincolnshire, Ill/Adlai E. Stevenson), Whitney Taney (Edina, Minn./Edina), Rika Tatsuno (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula) and Kari Wig (Cochrane, Alberta/Cochrane) to graduation following this season.
The Wolverines will not be in action again until the calendar turns to 2011, hosting the Michigan Invitational, Jan. 15-17. The dual-match season kicks off against Western Michigan, Jan. 23, at the Varsity Tennis Center.
