JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team wrapped up competition on day two of the North Florida Spring Break Invitational on Saturday (March 3) at Hodges Stadium. In her first outdoor event of 2012, fifth-year senior Allison Liske (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) won the shot put (15.80m, 51-10.00) and discus (48.08m, 157-9.00).
Junior/sophomore Kari Prena (West Bloomfield Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Central) followed behind Liske, taking second in the discus with a throw of 44.95 meters (147-6.00).
After winning the 100-meter hurdles yesterday (Friday, March 2), sophomore Amber Smith (Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood) returned to the track today to win the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:01.32.
Sophomore Erin Busbee (Collinwood, Ohio/Collinwood) was Michigan's third event champion, winning the high jump with a personal-best height of 1.68 meters (5-6.00). Senior/junior Brianna Jenkins (Novi, Mich./Northville) recorded a third-place finish, clearing a height of 1.63 meter (5-4.25).
Junior Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) recorded her second top-five performances of the weekend, finishing fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.37 meters (43-10.50).
Meanwhile, junior Charlotte Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) clocked a personal-best of 24.31 in the 200-meter dash to place second in the event.
In Michigan's only middle-distance event of the day, sophomore Megan Weschler (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) and senior Mary Grace Pellegrini (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) finished third and fourth, respectively. Weschler clocked a personal-best time of 4:39.30, while Pellegrini crossed the line at 4:44.13.
Michigan's 4-400-meter relay wrapped up competition by finishing runner-up with a time of 3:49.24. The relay consisted of Smith, Cahill, Brittani Williams (Detroit, Mich./Jackson) and Alexandria Williams (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven).
The Wolverines will compete next week at the NCAA Indoor Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday (March 9-10) in Boise, Idaho.
