SOUTH BEND, Ind./BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Members of the University of Michigan women's track and field team competed at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday (March 3) at the Loftus Center, vying for a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships. Meanwhile, junior/sophomore Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) was at Virginia Tech Qualifier at the Rector Field House.
At Notre Dame, junior Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) was Michigan's top finisher , clocking a time of 2:04.87 in the 800-meter run to take fourth, just .37 seconds shy of the NCAA automatic qualifying time. Fellow junior Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) finished on Addison's heals in fifth with a time of 2:05.01.
In the mile run, freshman Shannon Osika (Waterford, Mich./Mott) took 13th with a time of 4:45.30, while fellow freshman Brook Handler (Rochester, Mich./Rochester) placed 16th in 4:47.40.
On Friday (March 2), freshman Ellen Junewick (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) was the lone Wolverine performer, placing 13th in the 5,000-meter run (16:55.80).
At Virginia Tech, Tobel finished runner-up, clearing a height of 4.09 meters (13-5.00).
The NCAA qualifying field will be announced this week for the national championship meet, which will be held on March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
