HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Freshman Sami Michell (Reed City, Mich./Reed City) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles and followed up with a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles during the final day of competition at the Hillsdale Relays on Saturday (April 26) at Ken Herrick Outdoor Track.
Michell clocked a career-best time of 13.89 seconds in the 100m event to finish behind Michigan State's Lauren Rose (13.63). In the 400 hurdles, Michell posted a time of 1:02.27 in the 400m hurdles to place third. She ran in the championship division of both hurdles events.
Fifth-year senior Joanna Fleming (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) finished third in the hammer throw with a career-best toss of 54.94 meters (180-03 feet). Fleming surpassed her previous personal best by more than three feet during the competition.
In the championship division of the pole vault, fifth-year senior Kiley Tobel (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Western) tied for third place after clearing 3.85 meters (12-07.50 feet).
The Wolverines next will travel to California for the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational on Friday and Saturday, May 2-3.
