PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Junior/sophomore Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) set a new program record of 4.16 meters (13-7.75) in the pole vault, finishing second overall, to lead the University of Michigan women's track and field team at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Sunday (April 29) at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

In the 1,500-meter run, junior/sophomore Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) clocked the fastest time in the Big Ten this season -- a personal-best time of 4:13.94 -- to finish seventh in section two. In section three, junior Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) took fifth in a personal-best time of 4:17.16. Freshman Brook Handler (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) finished 13th in section five with a time of 4:37.94, while freshman Michaela Carnegie (Beulah, Mich./Benzie Central) ran a personal-best time of 4:34.13 to place sixth in section six.

Sophomore Alex Leptich (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) finished 16th in the second-fastest section of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 10:21.45. In section three, freshman Anna Pasternak (Brighton, Mich./Hartland) took 12th with a time of 11:02.82.

Junior/sophomore Meg Bellino (Monroe, Mich./Catholic Central) finished seventh in her section and 36th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.62, shaving two second off her previous personal best that she clocked at the Stanford Invitational (April 7).

In the 5,000-meter run, junior/sophomore Lindsey Hilton (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) placed ninth in section three with a time of 17:12.59.

Competing alongside Tobel in the pole vault was freshman Victoria Wesley (Marine City, Mich./Marine City), who placed 10th with a personal-best vault of 3.81 meters (12-6).

Michigan will host its only home meet of the outdoor season with its annual Len Paddock Invitational on Thursday and Friday (May 3-4) at Ferry Field.

N O T E S

Kiley Tobel's school-record vault of 4.16 meters (13-7.75) topped the previous record of 4.12 meters (13-6.25), which was set by Elizabeth Boyle in 2004.

Kiley Tobel now holds the indoor and outdoor school records in the pole vault. She set the indoor record of 4.23 meters (13-10.50) on Feb. 18, 2012.

• After personal-best times in the 1,500-meter run at the Payton Jordan Invitational, Jillian Smith (4:13.94) and Rebecca Addison (4:17.16) now rank first and third in the Big Ten and sixth and 18th in the nation, respectively.

• Former Wolverine Anna (Willard) Pierce (2007) won the fast heat of the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:07.00.
