EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team opened competition on the opening day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday (June 11) at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Senior Alex Leptich (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) finished 22nd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:34.81. In her first appearance at the outdoor national championships, she earned All-America honorable mention.
Freshman Aaron Howell (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) will begin the first day of the heptathlon tomorrow (Thursday, June 12) at 1 p.m. PDT. Michigan will also be represented by junior Brook Handler (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) in the 1,500-meter run, freshman Erin Finn (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) in the 10,000-meter run and sophomore Cindy Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Huron) in the 100-meter hurdles. The championships will be live on ESPN3 from 3:55-8 p.m. PDT tomorrow.
