ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team's dual meet against Ohio State on Saturday (Jan. 15) has been tabbed a "Pink Meet" to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. Field events are slated for an 11 a.m. start and track events at 1 p.m. at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Director of Athletics Dave Brandon will be the honorary starter for the meet, starting the mile run. In addition, Jan Brandon and senior associate athletic director Bitsy Ritt will serve as honorary captains for the meet.
Prior to the start of the meet, all children are welcome to participate in running events and games on the track from 10-10:40 a.m. U-M Marching Band drum major David Hines Jr. will also perform at 10:45 a.m. and hold a brief autograph session following his performance. Select Wolverines will also be available for autographs before the start of the field events at 11 a.m.
The event and parking is free to the public, with the first 500 fans to the meet receiving a pink pom pom. All fans that are dressed in pink will also be entered into a raffle for pink adidas prizes. Michigan women's track shirts will be sold for $10, with the proceeds benefiting the University of Michigan women's health program.
Saturday's meet is the first dual meet for the Wolverines since an 81-80 loss at Indiana on Jan. 12, 2002. It is the first of two consecutive home weekends for the Maize and Blue, which hosts the annual Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Jan. 22.
