PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior co-captain Nicole Edwards(Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was named the Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday (Jan. 22.). Edwards last won the award on Feb. 13, 2007.
Edwards set a Stile Athletics Field House record in the mile at the Akron Quad Saturday (Jan. 18) with her first-place time of 4:38.22 -- more than two seconds under the NCAA automatic qualifying time (4:40.60) and two seconds off her indoor school record (4:36.08). She also earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800-meter run, winning the event in 2:08.76.
The Wolverines took first place in the Akron Quad with 170 points.
Michigan will host the Simmons/Harvey Invitational (Jan. 26) at the Indoor Track Building. Action begins at 9 a.m.
