PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan senior/junior Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) was named Big Ten Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week today (Monday, Feb. 11) for recording the top height in the Big Ten to win the pole vault at the SPIRE Invitational on Friday (Feb. 8).
Tobel's vault of 4.22 meters (13-10) was just shy of her school-record setting mark she recorded last season (4.23 meters, 13-10.50). With the Big Ten Championships quickly approaching on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, her vault ranks first in the Big Ten and ninth in the NCAA.
Tobel's vault was one of several season-best performances at the SPIRE Invitational, which helped the Wolverines return to the USTFCCCA Division I top 25 poll, after a two-week absence, at No. 17.
This is the second Big Ten weekly honor of Tobel's career and first for Michigan this season.
The Wolverines will compete in their final meet of the regular season when they host the Silverston Invitational at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 16) at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
