ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fresh off its three-title, fourth-place performance at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, the University of Michigan women's track and field team is sending a small group to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame this weekend (Fri-Sat., March 4-5) inside the Loftus Sports Center.
The Wolverines will participate in the mile run, 200-meter dash and weight throw at the event, taking four athletes to the last chance meet to improve times for NCAA consideration. Senior Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and freshman Taylor Pogue (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich) will participate in the mile, fifth-year senior Alisha Cole (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) will run the 200 and sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) rounds out U-M's participants in the weight throw.
Michigan's distance medley relay team of Tauro, Cole, sophomore Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) and sophomore Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) has already qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 11:04.26. In addition, both Addison (2:03.79) and Smith (2:04.70) have automatically qualified in the 800-meter run. The NCAA Championships are slated for March 11-12 at Texas A&M University.
Pendleton's event is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. The rest of the Wolverines will participate on Saturday, with the 200-meter dash set for 1:05 p.m. and the mile at 1:25 p.m.
