Handler Runs Her Way to Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week

PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Junior Brook Handler (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester)was named Big Ten Conference Track Athlete of the Week today (Wednesday, April 2) after winning the invitational 1,500-meter run in a field of 64 runners at the Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 29.

Handler's winning and career-best 1,500-meter time of 4:18.28 is the top time clocked in the Big Ten and second-fastest time in the nation so far this outdoor season.

This is the first Big Ten outdoor weekly honor of Handler's career and first for Michigan this season. The last Wolverine to earn Big Ten Athlete of the Week accolades was fifth-year senior Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) on May 8, 2013.

Handler and the Wolverines will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to take on California and Virginia in the second annual tri-meet between the three teams on Saturday, April 5, at the University of Virginia.
