PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior/junior Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was named Big Ten Conference Track Athlete of the Week today (Wednesday, May 8) after winning the 800-meter run at the Toledo Invitational on Friday, May 3.
Smith's career-best time of 2:06.04 currently ranks fourth in the Big Ten and 17th in the NCAA East Region.
Smith shares the final weekly award of the season with Wisconsin's Deanna Latham. This is the third Big Ten outdoor weekly honor of Smith's career and first for Michigan this season.
The Wolverines will kick off the championship portion of their season at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted by Ohio State from Friday to Sunday (May 10-12). Action will begin on Friday at noon and resume again on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
