ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior pole vaulter Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western) of the University of Michigan women's track and field team was voted to the Capital One Academic All-District 5 team today (Thursday, May 29) by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience major, Tobel now advances to the Academic All-America team ballot; that team will be announced Thursday, June 26.
A two-time team captain, Tobel was previously named to the 2012 and 2013 Academic All-District 5 second team. She is also a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, and earned a 2014 Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship.
On the field, Tobel has accumulated five All-America honors, including second-team recognition at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships with a 15th-place finish (13-9 1/4). She also earned All-America second-team accolades at each of the last two NCAA Outdoor Championships, placing 10th in both 2012 and 2013. At the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships, Tobel finished third in the pole vault, after finishing runner-up in 2013. She is the school record holder in both the indoor (13-11 1/4) and outdoor (13-11 1/4) pole vault.
Thirteen members of the track and field team are competing at the NCAA East Preliminaries this week (May 29-31) in Jacksonville, Fla., including Tobel who is making her fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships qualifying meet.
