NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team received All-Academic team honors for the 2012 season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Thursday (July 26). The Wolverines were joined by 170 other NCAA Division I institutions that earned the distinction as a result of having a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.00 or better.
As a team, Michigan registered a cumulative GPA of 3.21, which ranked third among the nine Big Ten Conference schools.
Arkansas and Stanford repeated as the indoor and outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year, respectively, for being the highest-placing team with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Michigan also landed six individuals on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team, including recent graduate Mary Grace Pellegrini (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual), as well as returners, junior Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven), freshman Brook Handler (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester), sophomore Taylor Pogue (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich), junior/sophomore Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) and junior/sophomore Kiley Tobel (Commerce Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Western).
