U-M Defeats La Matanza in Straight Sets in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- The University of Michigan volleyball team improved to 2-0 on its 13-day South America trip with a straight-set victory over Universidad Nacional de la Matanza Sunday afternoon (June 2). It is Michigan's second win over the La Matanza in as many days.

Senior Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) led U-M with 14 kills and a .323 hitting percentage. Erwin also had a service ace and five digs. Classmate Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) added six kills, four digs, a block and a .455 attack percentage.

On defense, sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had a team-high 11 digs, while sophomore Krystalyn Goode (River Hills, Wis./Nicolet) and junior/sophomore Olivia Reed (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) had three total blocks apiece. The Wolverines outblocked La Matanza, 10-1.

Michigan continues its trip Monday (June 3) against Velez Sarsfield, a club that is the defending champion of the National League and finished fourth in the South American Club League.
