RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- The University of Michigan volleyball team started its tour of Brazil much like its trip to Argentina, as the Maize and Blue defeated Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in four sets Friday night (June 7) in Rio de Janeiro. Set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 25-17 and 25-18. Michigan is now 6-0 on its South American tour.
Senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) led the U-M attack with 11 kills on a .222 hitting percentage and also had a team-high four blocks. Classmate Molly Toon (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) added 10 kills and hit .468.
On defense, senior Ally Sabol (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) had 11 digs while sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) added 10. Morales also had seven service aces in the victory.
Michigan will face Flamengo again on Sunday (June 9) in Rio.
