RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- The University of Michigan volleyball team improved its record to 8-0 on its South American tour with a four-set win over the Brazilian Youth National Team Monday night (June 10) at the Saquarema Training Facility in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Set scores were 25-22, 24-26, 25-19 and 25-23.Senior Molly Toon (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) led the U-M offense with 13 kills on the night, while senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) and sophomore Krystalyn Goode (River Hills, Wis./Nicolet) had 11 kills apiece. Cross also had a team-high six blocks in the four-set win.
Junior Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) was one kill away from a double-double as she had nine kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) led Michigan with 17 digs, while classmate Kelly Murphy (Marietta, Ga./Walton) added 11.
Michigan will close out its South American tour schedule with two matches against the Brazilian Youth National Team on Tuesday (June 11) at the Saquarema Training Facility in Rio.
