RIO de JANEIRO, Brazil -- The University of Michigan volleyball team suffered its first loss of its South America tour Tuesday afternoon (June 11), falling in five sets to the Brazilian Youth National Team at the Saquarema Training Facility in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Set scores were 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 15-11.
Senior Molly Toon (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) led Michigan in kills for the second straight match as she had 20 terminations on 43 swings. Toon made it a double-double with 12 digs. Senior Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) had 11 kills and six digs, while senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) and sophomore Krystalyn Goode (River Hills, Wis./Nicolet) had 10 kills apiece.
Sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had a team-high 15 digs in the five-set loss. Senior Ally Sabol (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) had three service aces, with junior Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) adding two.
Michigan will face the Brazilian Youth National Team tonight (Tuesday, June 11) to close out its South America tour schedule.
