RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- The University of Michigan volleyball team completed its South America tour with a 2-0 win over the Brazilian Youth National Team Tuesday night (June 11) at the Saquarema Training Facility in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Wolverines went 9-1 on the trip and 2-1 against the Brazilian Youth National Team. Set scores were 25-19 and 25-21 in the best-of-three match.
Senior Molly Toon (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) led Michigan in kills for the third consecutive match as she had 13 terminations and added seven digs. Senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) had three total blocks, while sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had nine digs. Senior Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) added two service aces.
Michigan hit a combined .245 for the trip, with Toon and Cross having 97 kills apiece. Senior Ally Sabol (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) led U-M with 16 service aces, while Morales had 116 digs. Cross also led Michigan in blocks with 30.
Michigan opens the 2013 schedule on Friday, Aug. 30, against Clemson in the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. First serve is scheduled for noon. The home opener for the Maize and Blue is on Friday, Sept. 6, against Oregon State in the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge.
