MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Led by 10 kills each from senior Alex Hunt (Granger, Ind./South Bend St. Joseph) and sophomore Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park), the No. 24-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team stayed perfect on the season by sweeping Morehead State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-21), on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 27) at Wetherby Gymnasium. U-M finishes the season-opening Morehead State Eagle Challenge 3-0.

Senior Courtney Fletcher (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) went for eight kills, including five in the first frame, as Michigan hit .298 as a team to Morehead State's .130 in the contest. Senior libero Sloane Donhoff (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) recorded 20 digs to lead Michigan's defensive effort, chipping in two service aces behind the line as well. Freshman Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) directed the Wolverine offense, racking up 32 assists to go with three kills and a service ace.

Tied at 5-5 in the early going of the first set, Michigan went on a 7-1 run on the strength of four kills, a service ace and two Morehead miscues to force an Eagle timeout. The Wolverines, led by Fletcher's five kills, controlled the rest of the set, hitting .310 compared to Morehead's .143 for the 25-19 win.

With the second knotted at 19-all, Michigan ripped off six straight points on kills by Dannemiller, Hunt and Erwin, coupled with three errors from the Eagles, to take a 25-19 victory. Hunt put down four kills in the set as Michigan used 3.0 total blocks and 18 digs to take control.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the third, withstanding a Morehead State rally late in the set for the 25-22 win. U-M rode the outside hitting duo of Hunt and Erwin, who combined for 11 kills in the set, helping Michigan earn its second sweep of the season.

The Wolverines head west next weekend (Fri-Sat., Sept. 2-3), participating in the La Quinta Inn and Suites Invitational in Orem, Utah. First up for U-M will be host Utah Valley on Friday at 7 p.m. MDT.
