ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 18-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team won its 11th consecutive match in knocking off Xavier, 3-1 (25-18, 25-13, 25-27, 25-23), in the nightcap of the Michigan/adidas Invitational on Friday evening (Sept. 16) at Cliff Keen Arena.

Sophomore Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) posted her second double-double of the season with a career-best 18 kills to go with 10 digs. Senior Alex Hunt (Granger, Ind./South Bend St. Joseph) put down 13 kills and senior/junior Claire McElheny (Westfield, Ind./Brebeuf) joined the duo in double digits with 11 terminations. Freshman Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) handed out 51 assists and recorded eight digs, with senior libero Sloane Donhoff (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) recording 18 digs and sophomore Ally Sabol (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) picking up 12 on the evening.

Michigan pulled away from Xavier in the first set with a three-point spurt on the strength of two Musketeer errors and a Hunt termination to take a 17-14 lead. The Maize and Blue kept the advantage the rest of the way, recording five straight kills at the end of the set to grab a 25-18 win. Erwin spearheaded the U-M attack with five digs as the team hit .438 in the set.

The Wolverines jumped out to a quick 11-6 lead in the second set en route to a 25-13 triumph to take a 2-0 lead. Erwin once again provided the offense with six kills and Hunt chipped in four as Michigan continued its hot hitting with a .471 attack percentage.

Xavier claimed a 27-25 third-set win as Michigan could not complete the rally after falling behind 17-9. The Wolverines tied the set at 22-22 and grabbed two set points but could not convert as an Xavier service ace at 26-25 gave the Musketeers the win, cutting the Michigan match lead to 2-1.

Down 22-20 in the fourth set and forced to use its final timeout, U-M came back to tie the set at 23-23. A block by Hunt and sophomore Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ont./Birchmount Park Collegiate) resulted in match point, and Cross found the floor on the next point to end the match in Michigan's favor. Hunt and Cross each posted four kills in the set.

The Wolverines will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 17) against Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. Fans can receive free admission by showing their football ticket from the Eastern Michigan game.
