A Dannemiller kill gave the Wolverines a 5-2 advantage and a Hawkeye error put U-M up 8-5, forcing a Hawkeye timeout. The Hawkeyes came back to make it 10-8 with a kill off a long rally, but Michigan came out of that timeout on a 6-0 run, capped by an assisted block from Cross and Erwin. A block from junior Molly Toon (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and fifth-year senior Claire McElheny (Westfield, Ind./Brebeuf Prep) put Michigan up 20-12 and the Wolverines took the set, with kills from Murphy and Erwin and an Iowa ball-handling error.

The second set featured five ties in the first half of the game. Michigan went up 11-8 on an assisted block from Erwin and Cross and took a 16-13 lead on back-to-back kills from Murphy and Erwin. An Iowa attack error forced the Hawkeyes to take time at 18-14. Michigan held the Hawkeyes to a .000 hitting percentage in that second set.

A Toon kill gave Michigan a 7-3 advantage in the beginning of the third set. An Iowa error made it 10-5 Wolverines, forcing the Hawkeyes to call timeout. That was part of a 5-0 run capped by a Dannemiller kill at 13-5. A Hawkeye attack error gave Michigan an 18-10 lead, but Iowa came back to cut the lead to 20-18 on a block. Michigan then scored the next three points after that and took the set and the match on a Murphy kill.
