BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team fell for just the second time in Big Ten play, losing, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21, at Indiana on Friday night (Oct. 22) at University Gym. The Hoosiers hit .383 with only nine errors compared to Michigan's .092 attack percentage.

Junior outside hitter Alex Hunt (Granger, Ind./South Bend St. Joseph) led the way for U-M with eight kills and two service aces, while freshman middle blocker Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ont./Birchmount Park Collegiate) and redshirt sophomore right side Claire McElheny (Westfield, Ind./Brebeuf) each chipped in six kills. Senior setter Lexi Zimmerman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) recorded 23 assists to go with eight digs and five kills, while junior libero Sloane Donhoff (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) notched 13 digs on the evening. IU recorded 12.0 total blocks to Michigan's 2.0 on the evening, making up more than half of U-M's attack errors.

Tied at 2-2 in the first set, Indiana scored eight of the next 10 points to take control en route to a 25-16 decision. U-M fell victim to 4.0 Hoosier blocks in the frame, hitting just .125 to Indiana's .385 clip. Hunt's three terminations paced the Michigan offense as only two other players recorded more than one kill.

Indiana led wire to wire in the second set, hitting .480 with 4.0 blocks. The Hoosiers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the early going, using an attack error from Hunt to start the set and four kills from three different players to force a Michigan timeout. IU kept the momentum after the break, taking a lead as large as 11 in a 25-15 victory. Zimmerman led the way with three kills on three attempts, but the rest of the U-M attackers managed just seven kills.

Michigan led for the first time in the contest in the third set, taking a 5-4 lead off Hunt's service ace. The teams went back and forth until a U-M attack error gave the Hoosiers a 19-18 lead, as IU won six of the next eight points in a 25-21 decision. Hunt tallied four kills in the final set and McElheny and Cross both went for three.

The Wolverines will complete the state of Indiana road trip tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 23) at Purdue. The 6 p.m. match will air live on the Big Ten Network.
