BUENOS AIRES, Argentina -- The University of Michigan volleyball team opened its 13-day tour of South America with a four-set win over Universidad Nacional de la Matanza on Saturday night (June 1) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Set scores were 23-25, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-14.
Senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) led the Wolverine attack with 13 kills and a .667 attack percentage, while classmate Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) had 11 kills and four service aces. Senior Molly Toon (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) also had 11 kills and a .524 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) had 13 digs to lead the Maize and Blue while senior Ally Sabol (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) added nine. Junior Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) had five kills and six digs at setter.
Michigan outblocked La Matanza 9-2 with Cross leading the way with three stuffs.
Michigan will face La Matanza for the second straight night on Sunday (June 2) in Buenos Aires.
