At the Net with Carly Skjodt

June 7, 2017

Throughout the offseason and heading into the 2017 season, the Wolverines will give fans an inside look at the Michigan volleyball program with the At the Net blogs. This week, rising junior captain Carly Skjodt discusses her spring classes, a trip to the Indy 500 and preparations for the upcoming 2017 season.

It's June 7th!!! Today is an exciting day because it marks the two-month countdown of when we will all be reporting back to campus to begin training for the 2017 season! I know libero Jenna Lerg has been struggling to sleep from all the excitement she has for the upcoming season, but she's not the only one. :)

I am currently on campus taking a couple of spring classes to stay on track in the classroom and in the weight room. One benefit of spring term is the amount of free time we have compared to the fall and winter semesters. This past Memorial Day weekend, I got the chance to head home with five of my closest friends, one being teammate Maddy Abbott, and go to the Indianapolis 500. This experience was a 10 out of 10, and I would highly recommend going.

The Indy 500 was a blast, but I think my teammates and I can agree there is no better place to be in the summer than Ann Arbor. While I appreciate this place year round (even in minus-20 degree weather ... kinda), there are so many fun things to do when the sun is shining. Floating down the river, laying out on the docks or going for a walk in the arboretum are just a few of my favorites.

At the end of June, after spring classes end, I will be heading home for most of July to spend time with family and friends, work out and work a part-time internship. I'll be back to coach Michigan volleyball camps (sign up online here) and will also be going to my family's cottage in Canada for "Skjodt Family Week," which is one of my favorite weeks of the year. After that, I'll be back to Ann Arbor on August 7th for preseason!

I'm halfway done with my college career but ready to make the second half better than the first.

Go Blue!!!
