ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan volleyball alumna and 2012 AVCA All-America third team selection Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) has signed a contract to play professionally for Engelhomls Volleybollsällskap in Ängelholm, Sweden.
Cross (2010-13) started all 32 matches for the Maize and Blue her senior season, averaging 2.82 kills a set and hitting at a .320 clip. Cross, a co-captain and All-Big Ten selection, broke Michigan's all-time blocks mark in the Nebraska match (Oct. 11) and ended her career with 543 career blocks. She also eclipsed 1,000 kills in her career in the Ohio match (Sept. 21) and had 1,255 terminations. Cross, who is one of 10 finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award for collegiate volleyball, had a season-high 18 kills in that Ohio match, and tied a season high with nine blocks in the NCAA Tournament first-round match against LSU (Dec. 6).
Cross is the second Wolverine from the 2013 team that will be playing professionally in Europe. Classmate Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) will play for HPK Naiset in Finland this season.
"I am so incredibly happy and feel so fortunate that I am able to do something I love every single day," Cross said. "I am going to miss my Michigan family very much but I know they are all supporting me. Michigan has prepared me for the next stage in my journey. Thanks for all of the love and support I have received. I can't wait to hit the court again even if it's not in Cliff Keen Arena."
