Murphy is averaging 2.07 kills and 1.39 digs per set and had a career-high 17 kills in a five-set win over Arkansas (Sept. 1). Q: How did you choose U-M after growing up in Georgia?
A: The first thing that drew me to Michigan was the good academics. The good athletics and playing volleyball in the Big Ten were the other things that pulled me to Michigan.
Q: Did you have any family ties to Michigan?
A: No, I have family in Chicago but that as close as they are to here.
Q: The team is at home the next two weeks. How nice is it to play at home and do you feed off the home crowd's energy in your matches?
A: Playing at home is always so nice because you don't have to travel and you have the support of the home crowd. You also have the home court. It's just really nice when you're home and you're really comfortable.
Q: What are the big differences between high school and college volleyball?
A: College volleyball is way, way faster and more physical. Everything is kicked up a few levels. There's a huge jump from high school to college.
Q: The Big Ten boasts some of the best volleyball in the country. What is it like to play that competition day in and day out?
A: I think it's really good because it's going to help us overall become a better team. Also it only benefits us for the NCAA Tournament. It makes us better.
Q: Halloween is on Wednesday. What has been your favorite Halloween costume and why?
A: One year I dressed up as a nerd when I was 12. It was my favorite costume because it was really comfortable, I was warm and it was easy. But it was really good costume.
