INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team earned a bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 25) and will face Tennessee in the first round Thursday (Nov. 29) at 5 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

The winner of the Michigan/Tennessee match will face the winner of the No. 10 Louisville/Belmont contest in the second round slated for Friday night (Nov. 30) at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that match will move on to the Berkeley Regional Dec. 7-8.

Michigan (23-11) will make its seventh straight and 13th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines advanced to the regional final in 2009 and have made four regional semifinal appearances, including in 2011 by defeating Baylor and Stanford to advance to the Gainesville Regional. Michigan finished 11-9 in the Big Ten, good for a tie for sixth place. The Maize and Blue also has five wins against nationally ranked opponents and are coming off back-to-back road wins against rivals Michigan State and No. 14 Ohio State.

U-M is led offensively by junior Lexi Erwin's (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) 4.02 kills per set. Sophomore Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) is averaging 11.16 assists per set and freshman Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) checks in at 3.79 digs per set. Junior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) leads the team and is second in the Big Ten with 160 total blocks.

Tennessee (22-7) finished 15-5 in the Southeastern Conference, good for a second-place finish in the East Division. Kelsey Robinson leads the Volunteers with 4.28 kills and 3.44 digs per set. Mary Pollmiller is averaging 10.71 assists per set and DeeDee Harrison leads UT with 110 blocks.

This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Wolverines and Volunteers. Michigan leads the overall series 3-1, including winning the last meeting 3-1 on Sept. 4, 2009 in the Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. Louisville holds the all-time series lead 3-2 over the Maize and Blue, while U-M has never faced Belmont.
