ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan volleyball senior Jennifer Cross (Scarborough, Ontario/Birchmount Park Collegiate) was named to the 14-player All-Big Ten team, while freshman Abby Cole (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) was selected to the All-Freshman team, the league announced this morning (Tuesday, Dec. 3). In addition, fifth-year senior Brittany Lee (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) was U-M's honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Cross, a middle blocker, has started all 31 matches for the Maize and Blue this season, averaging 2.82 kills a set and hitting at a .319 clip. Cross, a co-captain, broke Michigan's all-time blocks mark in the Nebraska match (Oct. 11) and now has 534 career blocks. She also eclipsed 1,000 kills in her career in the Ohio match (Sept. 21) and has 1,241 terminations. Cross, who is one of 10 finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award for collegiate volleyball, had a season-high 18 kills in that Ohio match, while recording a season-best nine blocks at Minnesota on Oct. 19. She has 21 double-digit kill performances this season and has led the Wolverines in terminations on seven occasions.

Cole, a right side/opposite, has played in 30 matches with 21 starts for U-M in her freshman season. She is averaging 2.14 kills per set and has 89 total blocks. Cole was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Sept. 9 after having a match-high 16 kills and a .682 hitting percentage in a four-set win over Oregon State (Sept. 6). She had 16 kills in a four-set win at Northwestern (Nov. 10) and had 15 terminations in a win at Michigan State (Oct. 23). Cole has 12 double-digit kill performances and has led Michigan in blocks on seven occasions.

Lee, a defensive specialist, has played in 28 matches with eight starts for the Wolverines this season. She set a career high with 14 digs in a four-set win at Northwestern (Nov. 10). Lee, a two-time co-captain, had back-to-back 11-dig matches against Penn State (Nov. 1) and Ohio State (Nov. 2). Lee is averaging 1.49 digs per set and has 309 in her career. She also has 10 service aces this season, including a pair at Iowa (Nov. 15).

Cross was named to the All-Big Ten team for the second season in a row, becoming just the fourth Wolverine (Erin Moore, Katie Bruzdzinski and Lexi Zimmerman) to earn back-to-back yearly conference honors. Cole earns Michigan's fourth straight selection to the All-Freshman team after Cross in 2010, Lexi Dannemiller (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) in 2011 and Tiffany Morales (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) last season.

In the Big Ten specialty awards, Nebraska's Kelsey Robinson was named the Player of the Year, while Penn State's Micha Hancock earned Setter of the Year. Wisconsin's Lauren Carlini was named Freshman of the Year and Michigan State's Kori Moster was the Defensive Player of the Year. Penn State's Russ Rose earned the conference's Coach of the Year.

Michigan (18-13) heads to Seattle, Wash., and the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines face LSU on Friday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST) at the Alaska Airlines Arena on the campus of the University of Washington.
