LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Michigan volleyball junior outside hitter Lexi Erwin (Spring, Texas/Woodlands College Park) was named to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball All-Tournament team Saturday night (Dec. 15) after Texas' 3-0 win over Oregon in the national championship match.
Erwin, who also was named an honorable mention All-American by the AVCA on Wednesday (Dec. 12), had a match-high 26 kills in Michigan's five-set loss to the Longhorns Thursday night (Dec. 13) in the national semifinal. Erwin set a school record with 87 total attacks in the match. Erwin added eight digs and a block in the Texas match as the Wolverines were the only team in the NCAA Tournament to take a pair of sets against the eventual national champions.
Erwin was joined on the all-tournament team by four Longhorns and two Oregon Ducks. Texas' Bailey Webster was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the all-tourney squad by Hannah Allison, Haley Eckerman and Sha'Dare McNeal. Oregon's Alaina Bergsma and Liz Brenner rounded out the squad.
Michigan ended its season with a 27-12 record and its first trip to the national semifinals. The Wolverines had two All-Americans and two All-Big Ten players (Jennifer Cross and Erwin) and return five starters plus the libero to the 2013 squad.
